Airport Noise Community -- FAQ
- What is an airport noise community?
- It is a community with noise levels above 60 decibels according to the National Transportation Noise Map. Noise by definition is unwanted sound. Wind, air temperature, humidity, cloud cover, and temperature inversions all affect the transmission of noise and the loudness heard on the ground. These factors vary from day to day, and so will the noise level heard on the ground. The data on the National Transportation Noise Map represent potential noise levels for an average annual day for the specified year.
- Why is this information important?
- Failure to research if a property is within a "mapped" airport noise community and determine if the noise level is acceptable to you, prior to its purchase, means that the home buyer is willing to accept the property "as is". For the unwary buyer, this could result in inconveniences or discomforts.
